Accelerated Reader Program at Abbett Elementary

Garland Independent School District

The Rust Powers Foundation underwrote the Accelerated Reader Program at Luke and Betty Abbett Elementary in the Garland Independent School District to encourage reading proficiency and reading enjoyment in youth.

Accelerated Reader 360, by Renaissance Learning, monitors and assesses reading abilities of K – 12 youth. Students read nonfiction and fiction texts at their reading level and complete state standards-aligned activities and quizzes, which are tracked in the teacher and administrator dashboard. This program engages students and helps create a love of reading!

The Foundation’s president, Barbara Rust Powers, supports reading development in our youth and adults. She tutored students in reading and writing, taught English as a Second Language, and taught adult literacy classes. The Foundation hopes to further the love of reading in the important early grades and the Accelerated Reader Program can contribute to this endeavor.
